Oh what can I say...there's too much to put here. I guess the most important thing about me to know is that I have a lot to say. I might not necessarily say the most politically correct things, or think in the mainstream way, but I guarantee what I say and how I say it will at least be entertaining.

Are there are goals set for us or do we have to set our own life goals?

Are there goals set for us or do we have to set our own life goals?

There are goals society sets for us in order to better the group. Should we be blessed enough to be randomly born into a higher level of 'society' those given goals might be enough to sustain a worth-full life without the need for self goals.

However because the spirit of society is individualistic in nature, society is disallowed to set personal goals for the individual and still stay just and legitimate. For the person to be fulfilled they must determine, set, and attempt to achieve their own personal goals alongside their societies requirements.

Which is better? Is it better to have society set our goals or have the ability to do so ourselves? Personally I think the duality of goals and requirements of self and society are what is needed for clarity and focus of both mainstream society and personal governance.

Our determination of whether or not a society is just is based on what that society asks OF you (goal) not just what it asks you to DO (law).
Following the laws is what society asks you to do (do not litter) – deeming the laws just and necessary is what it asks of you (view littering as wrong).

Suppose your spiritual society was Christianity and like the goal of mainstream society is to be a good citizen, the goal of Christianity is to be a good Christian. Following the laws is what society asks you to do (do not covet) – deeming the laws just and necessary is what it asks of you (view coveting as sinful).
*To see all the societies that govern your life clearly you must be able to identify their requirements and goals. So it is not better to have society set goals for you OR you set goals for yourself. It is crucial that both set of goals exist so they can individually be viewed and achieved more clearly.

How does one's personal religion come into play? Each person has a view of what is right and no matter what society asks of him or her they will not violate that view. There are core beliefs that once you accept as true you cannot contradict and still consider yourself a practitioner.
*Self spirituality more so than organized religion plays a huge role in all that we do. Personal beliefs are so hard-wired to our core personality that to have a discussion of any topic based on opinion and not pull from those beliefs is as irrational as expecting to have a conversation with a politician and they not take the time to tell you why their opponent is wrong

***Food for thought***
What is the most important goal in your life and how would it be deemed "successfully completed".

Should we live according to the rules of our societies?

Should we live according to the rules of our societies?

Choose first which society you are speaking of.
The society of surface – the one you adhere to when you don’t speed, put your trash out on the right days, and omit doing as many crimes as you are made aware of.
Yet there is also a society of self or spirit – which one follows in order to gain eternal enlightenment or peace, one that specifies how to treat people, and gives you a path to take for self-success.

Adherence to the first society is necessary for freedom, should you or shouldn’t you in that arena is a given. Provided you are lucky enough to have the second society you can only adhere to them both if they can coexists enough to not contradict each other.
Either societal view you choose the reason to adhere to the rules are simple…it is necessary. Without individual adherence there can be no group.
