Should we live according to the rules of our societies?

Choose first which society you are speaking of.
The society of surface – the one you adhere to when you don’t speed, put your trash out on the right days, and omit doing as many crimes as you are made aware of.
Yet there is also a society of self or spirit – which one follows in order to gain eternal enlightenment or peace, one that specifies how to treat people, and gives you a path to take for self-success.

Adherence to the first society is necessary for freedom, should you or shouldn’t you in that arena is a given. Provided you are lucky enough to have the second society you can only adhere to them both if they can coexists enough to not contradict each other.
Either societal view you choose the reason to adhere to the rules are simple…it is necessary. Without individual adherence there can be no group.
